July was a very busy month. Lots of traveling, lots of walking, and lots of eating. Sharing some of the highlights from the month and recommendations for your future outings.
Restaurants:
The Quality Chop House: 150+ year-old chop house in Farringdon with absolutely delicious food. If you like steak, you should definitely bump this up your list.
Flour & Grape - Very rarely do you find restaurants in London that genuinely feel like a genuinely good bang for your buck, Flour & Grape is an exception. My friends and I split drinks (plural), several apps, individual pastas, and desserts (also plural), and the bill was ~35quid.
Tip: Order the Tiramisu Gelato.
Tip #2: There is a great wine bar called Bermondsey Corner down the road where you can go while you wait for your table at Flour & Grape.
Little Duck | The Picklery: This adorable restaurant in Dalston follows a lot of my favorite things about restaurants (except for a handwritten menu, though the vibe very much gives handwritten menu). The food is great and the room is basically a giant kitchen.
Tip: Request to sit at the kitchen counter.
Culture:
Royal Academy Summer Exhibition: Annual exhibition of thousands of art pieces at the Royal Academy. Presented in the French salon fashion (read: tons of paintings stacked on top of eachother).
Tip: It’s OPEN UNTIL AUG 18
Richard III at the Globe: Very entertaining rendition of a very disturbing Shakespeare History.
Tip: If you’re going to splurge on seats (a.k.a. not standing in the “groundling” section, buy the 3-pound cushion… it’s worth it).
Tip 2: Go to Brigadiers for dinner beforehand, then it’s just a 12-minute walk to the Globe.
Judy Chicago and Yinka Shonibare at the Serpentine Galleries

Shopping:
This is very random, but buy shells from Katrina Phillips on Portobello Road. The White Abalone shells are sourced from Africa and they’re a perfect catchall tray.
High Street Kensington Farmers Market (open on Saturdays).

Day Trips:
Blenheim Palace & Charlbury
Spend the morning at Blenheim Palace, and then head to Charlbury for lunch at the Bull.
Tip: If you’re still feeling adventurous (or energetic), head to Oxford for a walk around the campus on your way back to London.
Margate & Canterbury
More on this at a later date 👀

Random:
Tuna Fight Club: I’ll be honest, this is expensive and definitely not for those who don’t want to see how their meat is prepared, but if you’re deeply interested in food and food prep, this is well worth the splurge if you can swing it. Dubbed Tuna Fight Club by a newspaper, this dinner starts with the ceremonial removal of a 500-lb tuna from the back of a transport truck and onto a trolley. The fish is then wheeled inside and butchered / filleted in front of you. Throughout the coursed dinner you’re fed tuna and other delicious food (deep-fried wagyu sando 🤯).
Tip: After the host finishes his spiel and the Tuna is safely on the trolley, head straight to the back of the kitchen for best butcher-viewing.
